Learn some simple practical tips on healthier eating habits. In small groups of 2 – 3, everyone has a hand in creating the healthiest delicious sandwich. Dietitian, Ms Liow Min Choo will render a short talk on Healthy Eating Habits, followed by instructions to the healthy sandwich making competition – 3 prizes to be won. Everyone will then get to enjoy their works of art. Duration: 1 - 1½ hours during your lunch time 2. Topic: Supermarket Tour Shopping at the supermarket can be a healthy experience if you learn to shop smart and buy the right foods. Understanding simple nutrition and food labels is the 1st stage to smart shopping. Let Dietitian Ms Liow Min Choo teach you how to read food labels and what it means to select healthier food products with this knowledge. For greater interaction, a simple game can be played for small groups of 2 – 3, where participants are given small cash vouchers to purchase healthy foodstuffs with a theme in mind. The group with the healthiest combination of food wins another supermarket voucher. Everyone gets to keep their purchases. Topic: Canteen Food Assessment Many employees can have most of their meals at their workplace, they would hope that it would be healthy. Let a Dietitian work with your chefs/vendors to give practical suggestions on how to improve the healthiness of food served. Nutritional considerations include the use and type of oil used, cholesterol, saturated fat, sodium, fiber, vitamin C and sugar. At lunch time, the dietitian will sample/taste selected dishes, interview chefs on cooking practices and discuss/agree on possible changes. A final report of these discussions will be sent to you. Menu Planning can also be offered and ideas given to make meals interesting and healthier while still affordable and manageable. Duration: 1 1/2 hours during your lunch time 4. Topic: Personalizing Healthy Eating Every person has the opportunity of getting their diet assessed by a dietitian for its healthfulness by submitting a one week recall of all food and drink consumed. A friendly competition can be initiated by putting persons in small groups of 2 or 3. The group with the healthiest diets would win a prize. A short nutrition talk will then be given to share on nutrition basics and practical ways to make small changes to healthier eating habits.
